Agroecological farming promotes yield and biodiversity but may require subsidy to be profitable

Our results provide some optimism for an economic basis to promote the adoption of complex agroecological farming systems. However, as the complexity of the agroecological interventions increases they become less profitable within the current economic environment, even with subsidies.
